Just had our 13 year old GD for the weekend. And what a lovely weekend we have had. She has a 7 year old Basset a really lovely tempered dog you could ever wish to meet.

We took her up to our allotment on Saturday so she could be loose and because we had nothing in our beds she could run around to her hearts content. She does spend alot of time in the house!! on her own. She went completely mad running up and down the paths. My GD has a bed in the allotment where she grows flowers and heathers, she also has a large trug which we have made into a pond. Honey leant over the pond to have a drink and fell in head first with only her hind legs sticking out. So we all grabbed her and yanked her out, she seemed no worse for wear. Just a little shocked. She settled down after that.

We managed to get all the beds rotorvated, after having no rain for a good two weeks. We also planted our two first early potatoes.

I have lots of things going on in the polytunnel. Our GD loves spending time at the allotment. On Sunday we did a five mile walk all together it was wonderful, the weather was brilliant, and the dog and the GD loved it. So a good time was had by all.

Finally I made a Delias roast vegetable lasagne for tea, not expecting GD to stay (she is not keen on veggies). She stayed and ended up having seconds of the lasagna, absolutely loved it.

Today we have spent all day in our back garden, which is not huge, weeding and clearing lots of things. We have a resident male blackbird which is very tame and spent most of the day very close by. It looks like it might be feeding young.

Morning Catherine, i'm so pleased you had such a lovely weekend, and you both enjoyed your Grand daughters company so much. I'm sure she will carry those happy memories of staying with you both through the rest of her life, so very special times indeed.

Regarding Honey falling into the pond, many years ago i used to have a Whippet called Kerry, my Mum was looking after her for a day, and she had a pond that was covered in fairy moss, Kerry thought she could walk across this, but to no avail.

We had a toy poodle that did exactly the same thing as Kerry.

We had just fed the fish too who scattered as Bonnie swam across the pond to the side we were on somehow avoiding the pipes and leads to the fountain to be hauled out at our side with not a trace of any weed on her.

We were the only ones panicking - she loved it and had to be held tightly after that whenever we threw food in for the fish.

Poodles were originally bred as water dogs - going into water to retrieve ducks that had been shot - so I suppose it is in the genes! Although our present miniature poodle hates getting wet - she is even reluctant to go out in the rain!

I often see dogs on the shores here off season when things are blissfully quiet; a spaniel had an amazing time in and out of the water.. sheer jpie de vivre. Our wee dog ( Bassett Jack Russell Cross rescue) has an ongoing hate feud with the garden hose. One glimpse of it and POW.. barking her wee head off! So funny and this way she gets a good wash. Collie on the other hand sees it as a drinking fountain and lunges at it. so they end up inside when I am watering.
