Sorry Grock, forgot to tell you that my mother agrees more or less with Vivien's translation. These beer steins tend to use old german and strange sayings so a literal translation will be rubbish. Vivien's translation makes sense. :D

I can't promise anything close to an exact translation, but it's roughly 'who drinks beer for 80 years, shake his hand and greet him before he falls to the floor'. Very roughly! As a hint, if a letter looks like a capital B with a tail (a greek beta), that's the german version of a double s, i.e. ss. Confusing, huh!
