Hi just got hold of a rotavator it has a villers MK15HS four stroke engine.
on top of the carb there looks like a oil resovior eny body have eny clue whats it for and what do i fill it up with cheers chris

Not sure as mine all have Kohler engines.

I am not aware of any Villiers carburettor needing oil in it.
Do you mean the air filter?
Some of these engines were fitted with an oil bath air filter and there should be a mark showing the oil level (about level with the bottom of the wire mesh inside the filter). If the external transfer for the oil level has worn away there is usually a line embossed in the metal to show the level.

I am a bit thin on Villiers info' Peter

I can visualise a brittle plastic oil bath pot with a level line that fits under the carb on some Mk12....but not familiar with Mk15...but it sounds like Landie has got the job sorted. ..

Chris, wire pot scourers would be better than wire wool as they have a more open texture, wire wool would probably be too dense a mass and could cause the engine to run rich. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_filter for an explanation of how they work.
My old Rototiller uses oil soaked fine wood shavings after the oil bath filter, see attached.
