Was due to the fact the main forum section had no permissions set.... As admin there's a nifty feature that allows you to assume the same permissions as a member, so you can see any errors they do. So I briefly cloned myself as Alan, spent a few hours outside in the KG plot - then wandered back into the office and had a cuppa. Then I fixed the problem KGAdmin
