Staff from Maidstone based de Jager bulbs handed over a cheque for £10,000 to Breast Cancer Campaign’s corporate fundraiser, Franklin Jacoyange, earlier this week as a result of de Jager’s pink campaign.

Premier flower bulb specialists, de Jager, teamed up with the charity, whose aim is to be the leading specialists in breast cancer research in the UK, to raise funds from the sale of a specially branded 'Pink Bulb Range'.

When de Jager customers bought bulbs from the ‘Pink Range’, identified by the breast cancer pink ribbon in the catalogue and on its website (www.dejager.co.uk), 10% of the sale of those bulbs was raised for the charity.

Additionally a specially designed Pink Bulb Box containing pink flowering bulbs retailing at £30 (inc VAT) contributed £2.60 from every box sold to the charity.

“When we were looking for a charity to support,” says de Jager owner, George Clowes, “Breast Cancer Campaign was the most popular and got the vote of all our staff. So much so that we are continuing to raise money for breast cancer charities by means of our pink bulb range.”

P de Jager & Sons has always had a reputation for top size, top quality bulbs, lots of varieties and unusual species. The website and 2010 autumn catalogue are full of sensational spring bulbs with 620 varieties including more than 64 new or re-introductions. The ‘Pink Bulb Range’ is identified by the breast cancer pink ribbon featured in the catalogue and on the website.

Breast Cancer Campaign’s mission is to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure – see www.breastcancercampaign.org

Can gardening by the phases of the moon improve your crops?

Yes, definately. I've tried it and know it works.
I've never tried it, but intend to give it a go.
I have friends who use it and say it works for them.
It is utter nonsense.
I'm undecided.
