Tribute to Geoff Stokes
By: Web Editor
Geoff Stokes, who held the position of National Secretary with the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners for over 20 years, has died suddenly.
Geoff Stokes - a great advocate of the allotment movement
Geoff was a great advocate of the allotment movement and the society was proud that he released his book Teach Yourself Allotment Gardening last year. Although Geoff did not have any legal qualifications, there was nothing that he didn't know about allotment law.
Geoff lived in Rothwell, Northants, but originally hailed from London and married a farmer’s daughter. He didn’t have an allotment, he didn’t need to, as his garden was over 200ft long! He was constantly in the garden with his wife Liz. He would take a variety of vegetables to the office, and also the lovely jams and chutneys that Liz made.
Gardening was his main interest and took up a big part of his life and he liked to visit National Trust properties in his spare time.
He leaves his wife Liz, son David, daughter Jenny and their families.
