Vegan Veg: Figgy fascination
4 October 2012
If you have fig trees, you’ll know what a joy it is to eat the ripe, sun-warmed fruit straight from the tree. If you don’t have a fig tree, why not, asks KG’s vegan veg expert Lonnie Morris.

Have a garden clean up - With the plot slowly emptying as summer crops come to an end and autumn types are harvested, clear the soil of weeds and any old crop debris such as leaves and other trimmings that might have got left behind. These will act as a home for pests and diseases over the winter months and should be added to the compost heap (as long as they are not obviously diseased and weeds are not seeding).
Vegan Veg - Recipe: Crostini with a simple tapenade

When Lonnie first suggested the idea of olives, I have to admit that I began to question her sanity. Fork to fork on the Falklands
2 August 2012.
Lillian Kidd has a gang of helpers – a seemingly infinite number of grandchildren whose pumpkins have taken over a number of her greenhouses. She is, it has to be said, a little nervous for their future – the pumpkins that is – as the summer is rapidly drawing to a close and they may not ripen enough to store for the winter. You see, we are talking the Falklands here, and the growing season is unnervingly short.

2 August 2012.
September is usually a productive month in many ways. Hopefully you are busy harvesting, cooking and eating the fruits of your labours and perhaps preserving the excess.
