Another year, another great attendance at the RHS Show Cardiff, as almost 24,000 people braved the April showers to enjoy the first outdoor show of the Royal Horticultural Society season, which provided the finale to the very first National Gardening Week.

Children from Robertswood School, Chalfont St. Peter, Bucks, got to grips with one of the world’s heaviest garden tools, a giant Bulldog spade (weight 28 stone 4.8 pounds/height 11 feet 8 inches), as they launched the new ‘dig out your old tools’ charity campaign at Rowan Garden Centre in Chalfont St. Giles, Bucks yesterday (29th March).

Queen’s Jubilee Garden gives the Royal seal of approval for Manchester’s first urban garden festival

Manchester has launched the UK’s very first city centre ‘urban garden festival’ at the Jubilee Garden in Albert Square. Dig the City Manchester 2012 will take place in the city from 23rd – 29th July and will see Manchester Cathedral, Manchester Arndale and National Football Museum decked out in floral displays and Exchange Square, Cathedral Walks and Victoria Street will also become a sea of green.
Water restriction update - all seven water companies to allow drip irrigation

The HTA* report that all water companies that are implementing hosepipe bans on 5 April will be exempting drip watering systems (see company websites for specific details). This means that Sutton & East Surrey, Veolia Central and Veolia South East have come into line with Thames, South East, Anglian and Southern Water companies.
