Exclusive new salad turnip

Seed and young plant suppliers D T Brown have launched a new turnip variety in their latest Summer Fruit and Vegetable Catalogue. 'SC9-303' is intended specifically as a salad turnip and the Cambridgeshire-based company are first to be supplying it. General manager Tim Jeffries told KG: “They have a really sweet flavour and are excellent either raw in salads or added to stir-fry dishes.

The sweet flavoured, firm textured roots, each only 6-8cms in diameter when mature, can be pulled smaller and there is no bitter aftertaste which can occur with standard varieties when eaten raw. The flesh is said to be clear and white.
A pack of 100 seeds costs £1.49 and seeds can be sown from March to mid August for harvesting from June – October. To order follow the link:
