My Tasty Travels with Lynda Bellingham Visits West Dean Gardens
By: Steve Ott
My Tasty Travels with Lynda Bellingham starts tonight, Monday 3 September at
4pm on ITV. The fourth episode on Thursday 6 September will feature West Dean Gardens - the centre for horticultural excellence near Chichester, West Sussex.
Linda gets to grips with a culinary challange set by West Dean's cookery expert, Rosemary Moon.
This new 20 x 60’ series sees Lynda Bellingham take to the road in her vintage
campervan “Battenburg” on a quest to seek out Britain’s best summer eats and visit
the people and places that make this country so special.
In July, Lynda Bellingham and “Battenburg” pitched up on the Front Lawn at West Dean Gardens. Tasked with a food challenge from Rosemary Moon, Lynda’s culinary skills were put to the test as she rustled up a sublime dish.
Meanwhile on the other side of the Gardens, the food, drink and music celebration
MedFest: a Taste of Mediterranean was in full swing. Rosemary Moon, West Dean’s
resident event cook and food course programmer, was eager to see whether
Lynda had risen to the challenge she had set. Lynda didn’t disappoint as she proudly presented her creation to the crowd.
“Lynda was really good to work with and very keen to come up with something that
did taste good. I was working with herbs all weekend - but that's as much as I will say
about the Culinary Challenge! My own challenge was accommodating a TV crew
whilst trying to keep my schedule to time.
Still, my audience was very willing to linger to sample Lynda's creation. Tune in on
Thursday to see the results!” says Rosemary Moon Garden Supervisor Sarah Wain is featured showing off West Dean’s extensive Walled Kitchen Gardens and Victorian Glasshouses full to brimming with specialist food and flowers.

Rosemary Moon will be hosting a series of Food Demos at West Dean’s forthcoming
garden event Apple Affair on 29 and 30 September, a celebration of the over
150 varieties of apples grown at West Dean. Over the weekend you’ll have the
chance to learn more about how to incorporate apples and autumn crops into your
cooking. Sarah Wain will be running a series of guided walks and talks through the
orchards, and the apple doctors will be on hand to help you identify your crops and
give growing tips. Plenty of fun and games for children ensure Apple-y fun for all the
family. West Dean House, around which the Gardens stand, will be open over the
weekend giving you the opportunity to have a look at the specially dressed State
Rooms and accompanying exhibition featuring new works of surrealist art.
Gift aid admission to the Apple Affair is £11.50 for adults plus concessions and £1
for a child. Take advantage of the 15% off early bird offer by purchasing your tickets
before the 17 September. The event is open between 10.30am and 5pm (last entry
for the house is 4.30pm.) Please note, no dogs are allowed in the event or grounds
during the Apple Affair, except assistance dogs. Access to restaurant and shop to
event ticket holders only.
