Despite the disappointment of the cancellation of the Great Yorkshire Show due to adverse weather conditions, there was great joy in the Flower Hall 1, where the volunteers from the Leeds and District Gardeners Federation who had created a demonstration allotment garden were awarded a large gold medal for their efforts.

Sadness and joy

Mary and Phil proudly display their certificates.

The allotment garden was part of a larger allotment educational display entered under a national allotment project,'The Allotment Regeneration Initiative' (ARI) which was also awarded a gold certificate for best educational stand.

Phil Gomersall, ARI Allotment Mentor for the Yorkshire and Humberside Region was overjoyed and says it was just reward for the effort the volunteers had put into the creation of the garden and in particular the efforts of Mary Dwight and her husband John.
