Stewart: seed tray giveaway for Garden Re-Leaf Day

Visit your local garden centre on March 13 and help make life a little better for poorly children nationwide.

Garden Re-Leaf Day has inspired the gardening industry as well as gardening retail and production communities up and down the country in support of this fund raising, fun filled event. Projects include wacky wheelbarrow competitions and mini garden Olympics as well as schemes to transform streets with sponsored hanging baskets and the creation of a garden in a school for disabled children.
Nigel Thompson, Stewart Garden Sales Director says “We are making the seed tray donations to show that Stewart wholeheartedly supports Garden Re-Leaf, the people who roll up their sleeves and get involved on the day and the valuable work of the charity Greenfingers.

“We are absolutely delighted to be involved with this fantastic nationwide event and have so much respect for the hard work that has been put into making it so special for so many.”

Comic Relief was the spark that fired the imagination of Boyd Douglas-Davies the originator of Garden Re-Leaf Day. He says “The events, large and small, will showcase our wonderfully diverse industry, some providing a lasting legacy, but all engaging with gardeners whatever their age or experience.”
The Chairman of Greenfingers, Richard Jackson, says that “to date, 33 special gardens have been created in hospices around the country, and there is a further waiting list of hospices that need our help.”

Grow your own specialist and broadcaster, Pippa Greenwood who has teamed up with Stewart will be visiting Cadbury Garden & Leisure Centre on March 13th 2012. She will be helping customers improve their understanding of growing fruit and vegetables at home.

With a prolonged drought on the horizon for many gardeners this year - will your attitude to watering be affected? Which of these statements is most true for you?

I like to soak my crops regularly. Talk of drought doesn't bother me much.
I don't water at all once seedlings/young plants are established.
Water is short on my plot so I only water when absolutely necessary.
I water occasionally, but when I do give them a good soaking.
A likely prolonged drought has made me think about what I will grow this year and/or made me modify my techniques.
