Get set for the count!

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is nearly upon us. All you need is an hour of your spare time to join in

There’s an extra incentive to sign up for this year’s 40th anniversary RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch: register to take part and you can claim 20% off an order from the RSPB shop, plus free delivery. There’s an extensive range of quality feeds and feeders on offer, as well as treats for birdwatchers.

There’s also a special Big Garden Birdwatch Starter Kit on offer at half price. For just £20.60, you’ll get:

• A small classic easy-clean seed feeder

• 1.8kg of premium sunflower hearts

• A small classic easy-clean nut and nibble feeder

• 1kg of buggy nibbles

• A classic easy-clean suet feeder

• 12 super suet balls (sunflower heart variety)

This year’s Big Garden Birdwatch takes place on January 26, 27 and 28. You’re asked to spend one hour watching and recording the birds in your garden or local green space, and then to submit your results to help the RSPB compile its annual snapshot of how birds and other garden wildlife are faring. The Birdwatch started out as an activity for children on Blue Peter in 1979, and has grown to become the world’s largest garden wildlife survey. Last year, nearly half a million people took part.
