Discover the easiest way to support greenhouse toms
I was highly flattered to see that Monty Don likes my method of supporting toms so much using a simple string, he recommended it to viewers of Gardeners’ World last week! I’m joking of course – it has been used for many years, primarily by commercial growers. But it works really well – simply tie one end of a string to the lower stem (or ‘plant’ it under the rootball), the other to the crop bars, canes or eaves of the greenhouse or polytunnel and twine the plants around it as they grow. Do take care not to allow the string to be under a truss as it may break it off should the plant sag.
