SEED SOWING STARTER KIT

This sowing kit comes with a five litre bag of vermiculite, a pack of four bottle top waterers, a dibber and widger, a pack of 10cm (4in) 50 plant labels, two waterproof markers and three mini high dome propagators.

KG VERDICT
This is an excellent starter pack which has most of what you need to get sowing. There’s plenty of vermiculite to aid germination, a very good quantity of labels (plus markers), a dibber and widger, and bottle top waterers that will provide a fine spray to delicate young seedlings. We were particularly impressed with the three mini propagators, perfect for starting tomatoes, chillies, aubergines, peppers and other seeds.

SEEDBALL – BUTTERFLY MIX

Each seedball contains approximately 30 seeds to attract butterflies to your garden. There are 20 seed balls in a tin, with each one combining a mix of purple loosestrife, forget-me-not, musk mallow, red campion and yarrow, plus a sprinkling of pollinator-friendly annuals including chamomile, cornflower, corn marigold, and night-flowering catchfly.

KG VERDICT
The seedballs can be scattered either in autumn or spring. Each tin of 20 seed balls is enough to cover 1sq meter (39 x39in) of garden. Alternatively, you can place them in pots filled with multipurpose. When placing the seedballs you need to leave at least 10cm (4in) between each ball. Bird mix and bee mix seedballs are also available.

KG VERDICT
Sowing small seeds can be fiddly and it is easy to sow too thickly or thinly, so seed tapes offer a convenient alternative. All you need to do is to create a drill to the length you require and then cut the tape to fit. Cover with compost or soil to the appropriate depth as indicated on the packet and water in. A good variety of seeds in the range.
