Weather and neighbours permitting, World Naked Gardening Day takes place on May 7
According to its promoters, gardening is second only to swimming on the list of family-friendly activities that people are most ready to consider doing nude. ‘Morever,’ they say, ‘our culture needs to move toward a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment. Gardening naked is not only a simple joy, it reminds us – even if only for those few sunkissed minutes – that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet.’ People worldwide are being encouraged to divest themselves of their clothes and their inhibitions and get gardening (organically, of course). Which only leaves the issue of the date – which was possibly not picked with the British climate in mind. Still, there’s always the greenhouse…
