Description

I’m not a fan of seeing soil left bare over winter. And while many of us put a lot of hard work into looking after our soil, this effort can be undone by carelessly leaving it exposed to the elements in autumn and winter. Heavy rain can damage soil structure so that the particles become glued together and set like concrete when it dries out. This hard crust will cause water to just sit on the surface or run off. Additionally, on lighter soils, heavy rain will wash those hard-earned nutrients into the lower depths of the soil out of reach of the plant roots. So it’s definitely worth putting some extra effort into protecting your soil during winter. Here are a few ways you can make sure that it stays in tip-top shape.
