Description

Squashes are members of the cucurbit family that includes marrows, courgettes, cucumbers and melons and, like their fellow cousins, squashes are tender annuals. The winter squash, which comes in many shapes and colours, is so called because the fruits when ripened can be stored for use over the winter months, making them a valuable and tasty addition to the winter table. When I first started gardening, it was unusual to grow squashes, but with the introduction of F1 hybrids that have been bred for UK growing conditions, it’s now much easier to grow these delicious fruits in our gardens.
